Today we’re making a classic comfort dish from Taiwanese cooking ,Creamed Corn with Pork and Rice (粟米肉粒飯). It’s also a popular go‑to in many Hong Kong cafés. In about 30 minutes, you can have a cozy, family‑friendly meal that’s simple and satisfying.
This dish always brings back memories for me. Growing up, I loved the smell of it cooking, it was one of my mom’s regulars because it was quick, easy, and everyone liked it. Now I make it for my own family too. My kids get excited for it the same way I did back then.
History and Origins
Creamed Corn with Pork and Rice, known as 粟米肉粒飯 (sù mǐ ròu lì fàn) in Mandarin, has a rich history steeped in Taiwanese culinary culture. Its origins trace back to humble beginnings, where families relied on simple yet hearty meals to nourish themselves.
Over the years, this dish has become a cornerstone of Taiwanese cuisine, known for its comforting flavours and the way it brings people together. It’s one of those foods that has stayed around for generations, passed down in families and still made in homes today.
Ingredients and Cooking Process
Let’s get into making this simple comfort meal that my whole family really enjoys. As a parent, it’s honestly nice cooking this with my kids. They get excited about it, and it kind of reminds me of how I felt when my mom used to make it for us growing up.
You don’t need much for this dish. Cook the meat with creamed corn, spoon it over steamed rice, and it’s done. It’s sweet, savoury, and comes together in about 15 minutes, which is perfect on busy nights.
My mom always used minced pork, and that’s still what I usually go for. Sometimes I’ll use ground turkey or chicken if I want something a bit lighter, but pork does have that extra richness and juiciness that just works really well here.
Here’s all you need to get started: creamed corn, minced pork, and rice. That simple trio makes a comforting, satisfying meal every time.
* 1lb minced pork, ground chicken or ground turkey
* I like to marinate the meat for at least an hour with some minced garlic, soya sauce, sesame oil and a hint of white pepper
* 1- 2 cans of cream style corn
* I like to throw in some frozen veggies as well

Now for the fun part, cooking it all up. Add the minced pork to a pan and let it cook until it’s fully done and a bit tender. You’ll start to smell it pretty quickly, that’s usually the sign things are coming together. Once the pork looks good, add in the creamed corn. Pour it in and just stir it through so everything mixes evenly.
Seasoning time! Sprinkle in a bit of this, dash in a bit of that, whether it’s a pinch of salt, a twist of pepper, or a splash of soy sauce (if that’s your thing), make it taste just right for you. I also like to add in some frozen veggies. Soon enough, you’ll have a mouthwatering, creamy dish that’s impossible to resist.

This dish is really simple, tasty, and easy on the budget. Grab your pot and pan, head into the kitchen, and make yourself some creamed corn with pork and rice.
Thanks for hanging out with me through this one. Keep cooking, try new flavours when you feel like it, and let different foods and cultures give you ideas for your next meal.
