“No, I don’t watch TikToks, I watch Instagram reels of TikTok videos that were popular two weeks ago… like a grown up.” – Gareth Waugh 😅
This custard yogurt toast has been all over TikTok lately, and I kept seeing it pop up, so I figured I’d give it a try. It’s actually really simple to make, which makes it even better when you’re doing it with kids. You just mix some yogurt, an egg, and a drizzle of honey or syrup, spread it onto bread, add your favourite fruit, and pop it into the air fryer for about 4–5 minutes. That’s it—quick, easy, and surprisingly good.
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t totally sure what to expect at first, but we’re always open to trying new things in our house, so we went for it. It ended up tasting really good, and now my son is obsessed—he’s already claimed it as one of his go-to breakfasts, especially over March Break.
It’s one of those recipes that’s just fun to make and easy to change up depending on what you have at home. You can keep it simple or add different fruits and toppings, and it still works. Definitely one of those trends that’s actually worth trying.
Ingredients:
🥄 3 tbsps plain Greek yogurt
🥚 1 egg
🍯 2-3 tsps honey/syrup
🥄 2 tbsps cinnamon
🍓 Handful of fresh/frozen fruits
Instructions:
- Prepare Your Ingredients:
- Gather all the ingredients you’ll need.
- Make the Custard Mixture:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the plain yogurt, egg, and syrup or honey. Whisk them together until you have a smooth and well-mixed custard mixture.
- Spread the Custard Mixture:
- Take a slice of bread and, using a spoon, gently create a well in the center of the bread. This will help contain the custard within the bread, preventing it from spilling over the edges.
- Generously spread the custard mixture into the well and cover the bread evenly.
- Add Fresh Fruits:
- Place your choice of fresh fruits on top of the custard-covered bread. You can be creative and use any fruits you prefer.
- Air Fry the Toast:
- Place the custard toast sandwich in the air fryer. Make sure it’s not overcrowded, and you may need to cook one at a time depending on the size of your air fryer.
- Cook at 350°F (175°C) for about 4-5 minutes. Check the toast after 3 minutes to ensure it doesn’t overcook. The goal is to have a golden-brown, crispy exterior.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Carefully remove the custard toast from the air fryer when it’s done. It should be crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.
- Optionally, dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with additional syrup or honey for extra sweetness.
- Cut the custard toast in half diagonally, and it’s ready to be enjoyed!
