These overnight blueberry oats have been a lifesaver on busy mornings, especially when I have an early Pilates class and need something quick. I make them the night before, and they’re ready to grab when I get home.
They’re simple, creamy and filling, just an easy breakfast when I don’t want to think too much in the morning. I usually make a batch that lasts a few days, which makes those busy mornings a lot easier.
Your Recipe for Health and Convenience
Overnight oats are a simple way to add more fibre to your breakfast, and the oats and chia seeds help make them filling. I also like how easy they are to change depending on what you have on hand or what you like.
You can use dairy or plant-based milk, swap the fruit, adjust the sweetness, or add your favourite toppings. Because you make them the night before, breakfast is already taken care of when you wake up. For busy mornings, that alone is a pretty good reason to keep a few jars in the fridge.
Why I Add Chia Seeds to My Overnight Oats
I usually add chia seeds to my overnight oats, and honestly, to a lot of other things too. They’re an easy way to add some extra fibre and healthy fats, and they help make the oats a little more filling.
Blueberries are my go-to, but really, any berries work. They add some natural sweetness and freshness, along with vitamin C and antioxidants. The oats themselves are a simple, filling base that you can build on. That’s what I like about overnight oats. You’re not stuck making the exact same thing every time. Change up the fruit, add different toppings, or throw in whatever you have in the fridge. You can make them your own.
Some Tasty Variations
- Tropical Bliss: Add chopped mango, pineapple, and shredded coconut for a taste of the tropics. Top with a sprinkle of toasted coconut for an extra crunch.
- Nut Inspired: Mix in almond butter or chopped nuts like almonds, walnuts, or pecans. Add sliced bananas and a drizzle of honey for sweetness.
- Apple Pie Spice: Incorporate diced apples, cinnamon, and a touch of nutmeg. Garnish with a handful of granola for a crunchy texture resembling a pie crust.
- Berry Explosion: Combine strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries for a burst of berry goodness. For added protein, stir in some Greek yogurt or your favourite nut butter.
- Chocolate Love: Mix in a spoonful of cocoa powder and a handful of chocolate chips. Add a dollop of peanut butter and sliced bananas for a decadent treat.
- Matcha Madness: Mix in matcha powder for a vibrant green colour and a boost of antioxidants. Top with fresh berries and a drizzle of honey.
