Becoming a nutritionist wasn’t just a career move for me; it was a reclamation of my life. Before I understood the power of functional nutrition, I was lost in a cycle of chronic pain, desperately seeking answers that traditional medicine couldn’t seem to provide.
For years, I struggled until something finally clicked. It was a personal awakening—a lightbulb moment that pulled me out of my health challenges and pointed me toward a meaningful path. It wasn’t just about learning facts; it was about discovering the incredible potential our bodies have for healing when given the right tools. Today, as a practicing nutritionist currently specializing in holistic studies, my mission is to help others find that same hope.
When Pain Became My Uninvited Companion
After having my first baby, life felt sweet. I was soaking up the snuggles and navigating the beautiful chaos of motherhood. But a few months in, a strange jaw pain began to creep in.
At first, I brushed it off. I’m just tired, I told myself. It’s just hormones, or stress, or lack of sleep. But the “uninvited guest” wouldn’t leave. By 2017, the pain hit me like a freight train. After a long, uncertain road of specialists, I finally received a diagnosis: Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN).
I’ll never forget the frustration of trying to soothe my crying baby while I was doubled over in tears myself. In those dark moments, I learned that reaching out for help isn’t a weakness—it’s proof of resilience.
The Endless Struggle to Be Heard
One of the hardest parts of this journey was the disconnect I felt with Western medicine. I saw so many doctors, and honestly, most of them looked just as confused as I felt. I spent what felt like a lifetime in waiting rooms, only to face the endless struggle of trying to explain my aches and pains to people who were looking at a computer screen instead of at me.
I went through every test—blood work, MRIs, you name it—and everything came back “normal.” I kept hearing, “We don’t see anything wrong.” But I felt the lightning-bolt pain every single day. Being told “you’re just a tired new mom” when your body is screaming in agony is a lonely place to be. I was offered painkillers to mask the symptoms, but no one was looking for the root cause.
Seeking More Than Just a “Mask”
Deep down, I knew there was a better way. I returned to my long-time Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctor. For the first time, I felt heard. Together, we looked at the whole picture: food, herbs, acupuncture, and lifestyle shifts.
Acupuncture became my sanctuary, and personalized nutrition became my lifeline. Slowly, the pain began to recede. It wasn’t overnight, but it was real. I stepped back into a life I thought I had lost forever.
Why I Do What I Do
After experiencing several years of remission, I realized I didn’t just want to feel better—I wanted to understand why. I wanted to ensure that those joy-filled moments with my kids were the norm, not the exception. However, life happens. Under the weight of stress and the ease of falling back into old eating habits, the pain returned—and this time, it hit with even more intensity. It was a wake-up call. I returned to my roots in TCM and began working closely with a Holistic Nutritionist, realizing that true wellness isn’t a destination you reach, but a journey you commit to every day.
This curiosity led me to my first nutrition certification. I am currently practicing as a nutritionist while I continue my deep-dive studies to become a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN).
My philosophy is simple: Healing is holistic. It’s not just what’s on your plate; it’s what’s on your mind and in your heart. Your stress levels, your beliefs, and even the way you speak to yourself dictate how your body functions. I’ve fallen in love with the way food and mindset work together to create deep, lasting healing.
I See You
This journey hasn’t been easy. It’s been messy, raw, and at times, downright exhausting. But every setback taught me something, and every win reminded me how strong we are.
If you’ve ever felt unseen or dismissed in your own health journey… I see you. I’ve been there. You aren’t “just tired” or “just imagining it.”
I’m still learning and still growing, but I’m here to walk alongside you. Whether you are a fellow mama, a sister, or a friend, I’m so glad our paths crossed. Let’s find your version of balance, together.
